POSTURE OF EMPLOYEES AT WORK

EVALUATING THE POSTURE OF EMPLOYEES AT WORK VIA THE APPLICATION OF REBA AND BIOMECHANICS

ABSTRACT

PT. XYZ is a company engaged in the fields of textiles that produce padding (semi-finished materials produced by spring beds), goods bedding (the production of bedding materials such as pillows, bolsters, and mattresses), and high-density padding (materials in the form of fibers manufactured to market in small industries). Manually transferring material with human labor is an activity that is sometimes carried out in everyday life. One of them in the packing section is the activity of lifting pillow sacks to the finished goods warehouse. The activity carried out by the operator is carrying a pillow sack of pillow on his shoulder to the back, with the burden being transferred by 25 kg manually and running as far as 80 m. If the lifting activity is carried out repeatedly with the wrong work posture, it will result in complaints of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The purpose of this study is to minimize the cause of MSDs in the operator's work posture when lifting 25 kg of pillow sacks manually at PT XYZ. Identification of problems with operator work posture using the REBA method, which aims to determine the level of risk of worker posture errors, Then it is identified using biomechanical methods to determine the load received by the body segment (L5 or S1) so that it can minimize more detail than other factors causing MSDs. The results show that REBA's assessment falls into the high category, and immediate repairs are needed. While the results of the compressive force at L5 and S1 were 31153.38 N, they entered the dangerous classification. So recommendations are needed in the form of posture improvement and an assessment to reduce musculoskeletal problems.
